13 Most Common Diseases Found In Jack Russell Terriers

4. Hydrocephaly

Hydrocephaly involves fluid accumulating in the brain. This is a particularly dangerous neurological disease for a Jack Russell Terrier, as it puts pressure on the brain tissue and causes it to degenerate.

When dogs develop hydrocephaly, they often start to have balance problems and begin to walk into objects and walls out of confusion and disorientation.

While research into treating this devastating condition is ongoing, it is unfortunately common for dogs with hydrocephaly to be considered untreatable. In such cases, euthanasia is often the kindest available option.

However, these symptoms can be characteristic of other, more treatable neurological problems, so it is important to obtain a differential diagnosis.

Mine too. He is 11 years old. I think this behaviour is normal as they start getting older.
