Dogs Peeing In The Bed – Reasons & Prevention

August 5, 2019

If your dog has a tendency to mark his territory in your favorite territory every now and then, even though he’s house-trained, it means that something might be wrong with him. So, let’s see what the reasons are and what can you do in order to prevent your pooch from going No. 1 in your bed.

Anxiety and fear

If your dog is afraid of thunderstorms, and chances are he is, he might resort to seeking solace and a safe zone right there on your bed.

On the other hand, your pooch might simply have a nervous nature. If this is the case, your bed will again be the place where he feels most comforted.

It is possible to prevent this behavior by putting your dog on a strict schedule. Feed him, walk him and play with him at the same times each day.

You also might want to discuss with your vet the possibility of giving your dog anti-anxiety medications.

Territory marking

Marking the territory usually conveys his cute message which says: I will protect and defend this marked area against intruders. Dogs that are more aggressive are also more prone to marking the perimeter of the house so the other dogs will know the house is being protected. Less confident dogs will only mark the front door or your bed.

Medical conditions and aging

Dogs with a urinary tract condition usually drink more water and they might accidentally pee on the bed. If this is the case, the smell will probably cause them to pee there again, even after the medical condition is solved.

In these situations, use enzymatic urine odor eliminator to prevent future urination. Older dogs cannot hold their urine as they used to. If you have an older pooch, speak with your vet about possible treatment.

I took my puppy from a dog foster home about a year ago. I love him to bits; he has a great personality, and I feel that he loves our family so much. BUT, whenever I leave him at home he pees in the house: on the carpet, on the bed, on flowers..
My husband and I were thinking about taking him to ‘doggy school’, but then again, it’s extremely expensive, and the nearest ‘doggy school’ is far away from us. Maybe you have some advice? THANK YOU!!!!
