The Beauceron is a guard/herding dog breed which comes from Northern France and it is known as one of the smartest and most trainable breeds ever.
Origin
The regional name is somewhat misleading since the breed was found throughout northern France, rather than just in the Beauce region of France.
The origin can be traced all the way back to the beginning of the 19th century, however the Beauceron didn’t make its debut in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show until 2008.
Description
The breed’s appearance is a combination of the German Shepherd and the Doberman. They stand 24 to 27.5 inches (61 to 70cm) in height and weigh 66 to 100 pounds (30 to 45kg).
Beauceron has a hard outer coat and a woolly undercoat that grows thick in cold weather, especially if the dog sleeps outdoors. They usually come in black and tan or gray color, but can also be tawny or grey/black.
These athletic, healthy and long-lived pooches are intelligent, calm, gentle, and fearless, and are typically suspicious of strangers, which makes them excellent natural guard dogs. Though generally not cat friendly, these pooches can be trained to love other pets.
