Dogs have their own thermoregulation and they do regulate their own temperature, but when it’s hot enough for us in the summer, it’s hot for the dogs as well. Helping the dog keep cool in the summer will prevent health complication that can arise as a result of extremely high temperatures.

Try to schedule the dog’s walk early in the morning and late in the evening to avoid exposure to the sun in the middle of the day.

Make sure the dog is indoors from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. or in the shade if he’s in the yard.

Provide plenty of fresh water at all times and place its toys in the shade to lure him under that big tree.

Get summer doggie boots for your dog if you want to take the pooch outside in the middle of the day, just like you would in the winter when it’s too cold and there is salt everywhere. The heated asphalt can hurt the dog’s paws, and if your pooch is wearing boots the heat from the ground won’t spread through its body.

If you don’t have air-conditioning in the house, use alternative ways to reduce the heat. Get a fan that you can turn on during the hottest parts of the day or you can even spray the dog with a little bit of water. Just make sure you avoid the eyes and ears and only do it if the dog likes it.

Keep fresh water available at all times, even when you’re walking the dog in the morning and in the evening, and your pooch will thank you for it.
