If you are among the few good people out there who adopted a dog instead of buying one, and that dog is too skinny, you need to take some measures and put him on a special diet for a while so he would quickly get back in business.

Choosing The Right Dog Food

Make sure you buy a good quality dog food that is high in protein and fat. Pick one that has real meat as the top ingredient, and avoid foods willed with cheap, low-nutrition fillers.

Puppy food is also a good choice as it is often much higher in needed nutrients than regular food for adult dogs. Read carefully the directions on the bag and feed your skinny pooch accordingly.

Twice on a daily basis should be optimal.

Mixing it up with People Food

Many people foods are great for putting weight on our pooches. Sweet potatoes, brown rice, chicken meat and broth are excellent for mixing with his regular food. You can also put some peanut butter on his cookies to make his treat even more protein packed.

Nutritional Supplements

If nothing of the above seems to be working, it might be time for nutritional supplements. There are many quality ones on the market that will add that much needed nutrition boost for your pooch.

Make sure you read the directions on the packaging carefully when it comes to the daily amount.
