It’s well known that dogs aren’t shy when it comes to eating unordinary things – pillows, papers, slippers, homeworks.

However, many owners get confused when they see their dogs eating grass, since a good chunk of them don’t know why their pets do this and what the result of this behavior can be.

But worry not – we’re here to explain.

To Graze Or Not To Graze?

There is a variety of opinions as to why dogs actually eat grass. While most dog owners believe that their pets do this when they’re sick and they want to vomit, this is actually not true most of the time.

Instead, science has proven that most pooches turn to grazing the lawn when they need to treat intestinal worms, improve digestion, or even supply themselves with nutrients they miss from their regular diet.

For example, there have been reports that dogs who were introduced to a high-fiber diet stopped eating grass completely.

Finally, your canine may simply like the feel and taste of grass. In any case, don’t be afraid if your dog is mowing your lawn ‘manually’, and even if it vomits afterwards, remember that it was all voluntary and for a good reason.

One thing to watch out for is that some dogs like to eat grass that other dogs may have urinated on. That may not be such a good idea. But I agree, overall, a dog eating grass is not a big issue.
