Pups develop incredibly fast. One day they are ridiculously cute tiny balls of fur, the next they are on the verge of their first heat cycle.
Female pups are able to conceive long before their first birthday, so it is important to be careful and take the matter seriously.
Fast Blooming
The moment your young female pup is sexually mature, her body is capable of getting pregnant and producing her own litter. Some breeds can get pregnant at ages as young as 5 months. These cases are, however, pretty rare.
Size Matters
Most commonly, puppies that are smaller in size gain reproductive capabilities much faster than bigger dogs and breeds.
For instance, a puppy of a Yorkshire terrier is able to get pregnant at only 5 months of age, while a huge Great Dane may not mature sexually until she’s 2 years old.
So, What Is An Average Age Range for Maturity?
Although some breeds can reach these extremes such as 5 months or 2 years of age, the majority of female dogs gain the ability to get pregnant and bear young, when they’re in the range of 6 months and 1 year old.
