Gastritis in dogs is a fairly common occurrence, particularly in older pooches of smaller breeds.
Many small breeds, such as Shih-tzus, Miniature Poodles and Westies are genetically predisposed to suffering from gastritis so owners of these dogs need to be extra careful.
Gastritis is often characterized by frequent vomiting after consuming inappropriate food or medication or by infections.
You can help your dog by consulting with a veterinarian on the type of food and care the dog needs, by making sure the dog doesn’t chew on anything in the park or during its walk and by providing plenty of fresh water.
Dogs prone to gastritis should eat smaller meals more often and need soft, low-fat foods. Don’t give your dog any medication unless approved by the veterinarian. Lastly, don’t let your pooch roam freely as it is vulnerable to all sorts of adverse agents.
