Before adopting a new dog, one of the first things you need to do is find the right veterinarian.

Similarly, you will need a new vet if you are moving to a new place or even if you are taking your dog on vacation with you.

One of the first rules is to actually find a veterinarian before your dog needs one.

Finding yourself in a situation in which your dog desperately needs medical attention without knowing where to take him is a dreadful experience, so make sure you are prepared in advance.

If you have reliable sources of vet-related information, in a form of friends or family, have someone recommend a vet to you. You will be able to ask the person all sorts of questions you might be uncomfortable asking the veterinarian directly, and chances are, the person who is giving the recommendation knows other people who are happy with the vet’s services.

The more people you know who have nice things to say about someone’s services the higher your chances of making the decision.

If this is not an option, consult with popular doggy forums where individuals usually post their opinions based on personal experience to get some idea of where you’ll be taking your dog. Visit a few veterinarians before you make the final decision and feel free to ask them about their credentials. Pick the person who resonates with you and who is in your area in case of emergency.
