If you are looking for a large-sized, intelligent, trainable and good-tempered working dog breed, definitely take a look at this awesome dog.
Origin
As part of the Herding Group, they basically were working dogs developed originally for herding sheep.
Later, however, due to their agility, intelligence, trainability and obedience, the German Shepherd became the preferred breed for search-and-rescue, police and military roles and even acting.
Description
They have a domed forehead, a long square-cut muzzle and a black nose. Their jaws are extremely strong, with a scissor-like bite, while the eyes are medium-sized and brown with a “lively, intelligent and self-assured look.” The ears are typically large, erect, and open at the front.
Since these pooches are large-sized, the standard height is 24–26 inches (60–65cm) for males and 11-24 inches (55–60cm) for the ladies, while the weight standard is 66-88 lb (30–40kg) for males and 49-71lb (22–32kg) for females.
While they come in a variety of colors, the most common are tan/black and red/black.
As for their temperament, German Shepherds are “highly active dogs, self-assured, and are marked by a willingness to learn and an eagerness to have a purpose. They are curious which makes them excellent guard dogs and suitable for search missions.”
