Kuvasz is an ancient breed of large livestock dogs of Hungarian origin that will satisfy all your needs for a fearless guard dog.
Origin
One of the oldest identifiable dog breeds, these pooches date all the way back to 896 A.D. when they accompanied the Magyar tribes to the Carpathian Basin in Hungary, and primarily served as livestock guardians.
By the end of World War II, nearly all the Kuvasz dogs in Hungary had been killed due to their reputation for protecting their families. They were actively sought and killed by German and Soviet soldiers, which led to near extinction of the breed, making it quite rare and expensive today.
Description
The average height is 28 to 30 inches (70 to 76 cm) for male dogs, and 26 to 28 inches (65 to 70 cm) for females.
Females usually weigh between 70-90 pounds (32–41 kg), while males weigh between 100-115 pounds (45–52 kg).
The breed is highly intelligent, loyal, adaptable and patient. They appreciate attention, but are also somewhat aloof or independent, as well as thoroughly cunning, particularly with strangers.
Bweare, the Kuvasz breed is for experienced pet owners only. The combination of intelligence, independence and protectiveness make obedience training and socialization absolute necessities.
