The Lakeland Terrier is a small to mid-sized breed coming from the Lake District in England. Despite its independent in personality, this hypo-allergenic pooch is actually quite friendly and interacts well with owners and all family members.
Origin
The UK Kennel Club recognized Lakeland Terriers in 1921, but the breeders continued to alter this breed and in 1925 the Lakeland attained its homogeneity after a cross-breeding with the Fox Terrier and the Airedale Terrier.
Description
The Lakeland has a sturdy, compact body, relatively narrow in the chest and has a broad muzzle, yet slightly narrower than the Welsh Terrier, with small, V-shaped ears.
Its compactness makes it quite agile, free moving and able to cover ground with little effort and much quickness.
Average height is 13 to 15 inches (33 – 38 cm), while their average weight goes from 15 to 17 lb (7–8 kg).
As for their temperament, the Lakeland Terriers are typically friendly, bold, confident, quite intelligent and independent minded, which makes them quick learners and rather easy to train.
Pros
- intelligent
- adaptable
- trainable
- friendly
- great watchdog
- great with kids
- hypo-allergenic
Cons
- some might be hard to train due to their independent mindedness and stubbornness
