Papillon is a toy-sized, family dog that is excellent with the little ones and is becoming more and more popular worldwide.
Origin
Artist Tiziano Vicelli painted these small dogs in many famous paintings beginning as early as 1500.
The modern Papillon was first recognized by the AKC in 1935.
Description
The most recognizable aspect of this toy-breed is its ears which are large and well fringed, giving them a butterfly wing-like appearance.
When it comes to their height, both males and females will grow between 8 and 11 inches (20–28 cm), while weight average for males is 8 to 10 pounds (3.6–4.5 kg), and 7–9 pounds (3.2–4.1 kg) for female dogs.
Papillons are parti-colored, which means they are white with patches of almost any color, but the most common combination is white, brown and black.
A for the temperament, the Papillon is a very intelligent, self-assured dog that is quite easy to train. They are extremely sociable with children and strangers, but can be reserved around new people. Being very playful and affectionate, they are widely known as great companion dogs.
