Fall can be a rather dangerous season for dogs as it is characterized by increased use of pesticides, poisonous plants, particularly mushrooms, and use of dangerous substances, such as antifreeze for cars.
Pesticides are often used in the fall so keep this in mind next time you take your dog to somebody’s backyard.
Always make sure you ask the owner whether there are any areas of the yard that have been exposed to pesticides.
In case of mushrooms, most of them are harmless, but some are deadly and usually appear in the fall, seemingly overnight after a lot of rain. Don’t let your dog come into contact with any mushrooms in the park and you’ll have your peace of mind without having to worry about recognizing the dangerous types of mushrooms.
Last but not least, keep in mind all the hazardous substances that can often be used in the fall, such as antifreeze for cars parked on the streets where you walk your dog. Be mindful of this occurrence and if you happen to spill any make sure you clean the area right away because ethylene glycol, or antifreeze, is very dangerous for animals of all sorts.
