Even if you’ve been lucky enough never to experience what agony this can be, all dog owners should know how to quickly remove the skunk odor from their pooches, as it can make them go berserk. Sure, there are many products like this available at the pet store, but here’s one not so complicated way to remove this foul smell of your canine friend.
Step 1 – Check up
The moment you realize your pooch has been sprayed by a skunk, get a pair of rubber gloves and check your dog for possible bites, scratches, and also make sure his eyes haven’t made contact with the discharge. Should you find any injuries, contact your vet immediately.
Step 2 – Setting up Bath
If possible, set up a bathing area outdoors, or chose an easy to clean area inside your apartment – bathroom, laundry room, hallway, etc. If you are bathing him indoors be sure to open a window.
Step 3 – Concoction
The solution will start to fizz immediately due to chemical reaction, this means it is ready to use. Use immediately, do not store.
Cleanse the affected areas thoroughly by working the solution deep into your dog’s coat, but avoid getting the solution in the eyes, ears or mouth.
Make sure the solution remains in his coat for at least 5 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. If the odor persists, repeat several times until the odor is gone.
Oh, yeah. Don’t forget to give him a treat afterwards.
