If there was ever a trick everyone thinks a dog should know, it’s fetching. While it might seem like nothing more than fun, this activity serves as both great physical and mental exercise for you pooch. That’s why today we’re going to share a few tips on how to teach your dog to fetch.
Control, Obedience, And Fun
If you do everything correctly, you can also teach your dog to control its impulses as well as obeying commands properly.
So grab a pair of identical objects (preferably tennis balls) and a flexi-leash and get ready to spend about 15 minutes each day on teaching your dog the most basic trick ever.

While keeping your pet close to you, take out one ball and present it to him. Make sure he’s paying attention and is very excited about it. Then, cue your dog to sit – once he does it, make up a signal (i.e. ‘yes’) and toss the ball just a few feet away.
Once your pet collects the ball, give him some mild praise while stepping away. When you reach a certain distance, call your dog back to you.
When your canine reaches you again, present him with the second ball. As soon as he releases the first ball, give him the signal again and toss the second ball in the same way. Repeat until your dog releases the first ball as soon as he comes back.
