We all just love those little balls of fur and crave their undivided affection, but one needs to be 100% sure if he or she is up for the task. Here are some of the basic questions you should ask yourself before becoming a responsible dog owner.
Can I afford having a dog (financially)?
Should your ball of fur get sick or ends up suffering from an innate health condition, you could be looking at spending much more than that.
Getting pet insurance may be the way to go since they cover a large percentage of medical expenses.
Can I afford having a dog (lifestyle-wise)?
Think long and hard whether your lifestyle allows you to have a pet which seeks attention almost 24/7. If you live alone, work long hours or travel a lot, your lifestyle probably isn’t appropriate for having a canine friend who will end being lonely most of the time.
Think about whether or not you are able to make certain adjustments to your lifestyle in order to accommodate a pooch in your life. Think training-time, play-time, grooming-time, feeding schedules and veterinary care. Are you up for it?
