If you want to be a loving and responsible dog owner, you simply need to come up with a proper healthy diet plan for your pooch.

Much like us humans, if your canine friend starts eating everything without any restrictions, there’s a good chance he will develop obesity or other health problems.

Well-balanced and portion-controlled diet plan is a must, and if you are not sure how to make one for your own pooch, make sure you turn to your veterinarian for a professional piece of advice.

Suitable portion sizes and balanced meals differ from breed to breed, so make be sure to take into consideration your dog’s weight, age, medical history, etc.

If your fluffy friend is currently on some medications, make sure you tell vet all about it.

Aside from balanced meals, their frequency is also rather important. Ask your vet to advise you about the feeding schedule. Once in the morning and again later on in the evening is often recommended, but it may vary depending on the breed.

Obesity

Although not that frequent, obesity in dogs can be quite dangerous. Excessive eating can lead to your fluffy friend being, well, a bit fluffier than he should be. This is why you need to establish a healthy, calorie-controlled diet for your dog.

Overweight or obese dogs are more prone to following medical ailments:

  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Shorter overall life span
